I had the opportunity to join in with a group of Salidans and Buena Vistans who recently began the Choices for Sustainable Living discussion course developed by the Northwest Earth Institute out of Portland, Oregon and sponsored by GARNA. Due to the fact that the group is larger than the recommended number of participants, the decision was made to start a second discussion group in Buena Vista. For those of you who might be interested in joining the group, there are a handful of spaces still open. The group will be meeting on Monday evenings starting the 25th of February at 7pm in the community room at Mother’s Bistro. Please visit the disscussion forum for more information.
The course is carried out over a period of eight weeks and involves weekly reading assignments with an hour and a half discussion session. Articles featured in the course were written by such authors as James Howard Kunstler, Jared Diamond, Eric Schlosser, Michael Pollan, Bill McKibben, Barbara Kingsolover, Robert F Kennedy, Paul Hawken, and Howard Zinn. The purpose of this course is to explore the meaning of sustainable living and the ties between lifestyle choices and their impact on the earth.
If you are curious about this course you may want to check out my blog where I recently wrote about my impressions of the readings for the first assignment and the subsequent discussion that followed. Click here to visit Perspicacitas.
