going inverted at Monarch Big AirIf you are looking for a last hurrah for the winter ski season there are three events this week you might want to check out.

This Thursday night join the crew from The Trailhead for their final Nocturnal Nordic Night ski of the winter. They will be skiing in the Cottonwood Lake area. Check out the Channel BV calendar for more info.

This Saturday Monarch Mountain and Option 23 are hosting their annual Big Air Competition where locals on the freeride team and competitors from around the state gather at the big jumps and show off their latest tricks. To get a sense of this competition, look at the photos on Ten Shillings from years past. If you have any questions about the event, talk with Brandon Moore, a coach for the Monarch Freeride Team.

If you are headed north, check out Colorado Mountain College’s 3rd Annual Rail Jam. This competition will begin at noon on Dutch Henri Hill. For those of you not familiar with the term “rail jam”, it is a competition where skiers and riders will perform tricks, balanced and sliding down long handrails. It is truly a test of perfect poise and agility.

Both competitions are on Saturday, March 22, so you’ll have to decide to drive north or south. If you don’t want to drive solo, check out the ride share forum and try to carpool with someone else. See you there!
