Warm weather means melting snow (finally) means big flows on the Arkansas River means big tricks in the Buena Vista River Park means kayaking pros want to check it out.

“The first annual Buena Vista Pro Rodeo will be held on May 24, 2008 on the new and improved Buena Vista River Park in Buena Vista, Colorado. A Pro Freestyle Competition will be followed by an evening party and awards ceremony. The event will divide a $2000 cash purse between winners in Men’s and Women’s divisions, and preliminaries and finals will both take place on Saturday May 24.”

If you’ve never had the opportunity to watch kayaking pros get big air and perform incredible tricks live, this is the weekend event for you. Come down to the river Saturday for a good show followed by live music by Hustle (a Vail jam band) at the evening party, 6pm in South Main square.

The rodeo will be held at the upper river feature by the boat ramp and foot bridge. Prelims start at 10:30am, finals start at 3pm. For more information about this new event, check their website.
