Spring has arrived in full force. The Lilacs are blooming, the snow is melting and the Caddis Fly are hatching in record numbers on the Arkansas River! ESPN covered the hatch a couple years back,
“They come off the river like smoke,” said Bill Edrington, owner of Royal Gorge Anglers
Fishermen are advised to wear bandanas, protective glasses, and earplugs or cotton in their ears if they want to fly fish this amazing caddis hatch safely.”
Wikipedia has the science and Troutnut.com lays out the how and why of their place in the ecosystem. Happy Fishing!
Note: The Caddis didn’t show up as well a I’d hoped in the video. The air was full of them as the sun set early last week.
