This week Buena Vista will be one of six host communities to this year’s Denver Post Ride the Rockies Tour. The 2000 cyclists participating in this year’s 435 mile route will begin in Durango and then continue through Cortez, Telluride, Montrose, Crested Butte, Buena Vista, and will end in Breckenridge. This annual event, started in 1986, has a different route chosen every year that ventures through the historic towns and scenic mountain passes of the Colorado Rockies.
Every year the Ride The Rockies/Post-News Community grant program awards $5000 in grant money to each of the host communities. Specifically, this grant program supports non profits “that provide services for low-income children and youth through recreation, education, or the arts and/or agencies that offer direct-service literacy programs.” This year’s Buena Vista recipient is the Boys and Girls Club of Chaffee County.
The tour will be heading to Buena Vista on Friday, June 20 and will spend the night here before heading out the next day for the final leg of the tour.
