CPMF 2008 is nearly here! My all time hands down favorite local artist has been added to the schedule for the Collegiate Peaks Music Festival for 2008. I remember seeing Jonah Werner perform for the first time down at the Salida Cafe. As you probably know, the coffee shop offers a rather intimate venue, perfect for Jonah’s conversational style. He is an accomplished musician, holding the stage with only a guitar for rhythm and melody. He weaves whimsical stories, one might even call some of them parables, into his catchy, driving folk lines. One of my (and possibly his) favorite tracks is a story out of the past about a favorite pair of blue ‘footy’ pajamas. I love the track because it’s like childhood in a bottle. Plus, I had a pair of those pajamas (didn’t we all?) and I miss being able to wear them and run and slide across the floor just like he does. That may be my personal test for the quality of a singer-songwriter - the ability to connect, to transport and to understand and communicate about a common moment in the collective past. Jonah knows how to connect.
You can sample that track and many others from the music section of JonahWerner.com.
A quick search on YouTube turns up about 50 videos of Jonah performing including this one called Y-O-U from his 2006 release ‘Better Things’.
Enjoy and come see him and the rest of the performers (the festival is almost here!) August 15-17th in downtown Buena Vista, Colorado.
