As one of the best sunsets of the summer faded over Mt. Columbia last night, the lights came up on what should be a great new warm weather tradition in Buena Vista. BV’s newest night spot, Daughters Bar, (next door to and affiliated with Mother’s Bistro) partnered with Colorado Kayak Supply to start bringing outdoor adventure films to the back patio.

Last nights screening of whitewater paddling legend Steve Fisher’s ‘Black Book’ was a real treat! Transporting the audience from deepest Uganda and the shores of the mighty White Nile, to the wilds of unexplored Tibet in the canyons of the Tsang-Po river, the film had everyone on the edge of their seat. We all (myself included) kept gasping at the unbelievable landscapes, the ridiculous waterfalls and the sheer audacity and skill of the paddlers as they launched themselves again and again into and off of some of the worlds most incredible rivers. Steve Fisher’s path through the paddling universe has closely paralleled the progression of the sport as a whole. The film offers a rare look at a great and humble paddler who continues to inspire the next generation. Now, being a paddler myself, it was likely that I would enjoy this film. But since I watched with a few non-paddling friends as well, I can vouch for how much they enjoyed it too.

Big thanks to Daughters and CKS for the fun evening and more to come! I think the goal is to keep doing this on Thursday Nights through the end of the summer. We’ll see you there next time!

Below are the first few minutes of ‘Black Book’ in case you missed it (or wanted to watch it again). The video is also available for purchase from CKS.
