The countdown clock on NBC.com reads less than 24 hours ’til the games begin! With the usual bout of controversy over the host country’s politics and the added interest in what it takes to get blue skies over a city that hasn’t seen them in a decade (The US cycling team got a lot of coverage by arriving in black respiratory masks), the games appear poised to deliver their usual dose of drama, fun and nationalistic team-spirit.

In light of this, I thought I’d post a few stories that may or may not have made it across ChannelBV readers desks just yet:

1) A little retrospective on Matt Hemingway, Buena Vista’s own high jumping Olympic medalist.

2) A history of the wierdest sports in the Olympics.

3) Note: Athletes are allowed to blog their experiences, but only if they contain no images, video or commentary from other athletes, coaches, Olympic venues or events…. Ummmmm, so what can I write about exactly?

4) Why is the president going to the Olympics? Why, to talk to Chinese president Hu Jintao them about religious freedoms of course…

5) Aaaaaaand what Olympic Games would be complete without a piece of new technology that threatens to upset the apple cart on a competitive amateur sporting event? Yes, you guessed it folks. I’m talking about the awesomely awesome new Speedo racing swimsuit that has everyone up in arms. Whatever will the world do?

Bonus) Oh, and there will be a few sporting events going on as well. If you can’t wait for them to show up on YouTube, you can find the TV Schedule for all US events here @ NBColympics.com

I hope you enjoy watching a few of the side issues surrounding these games unfold as much as I do. Readers, let us know who and what you’re watching out for in Beijing so we can all join in the fun. Let the games begin!
