On Thursday, August 7th, US Senator Ken Salazar arrived at the Sangre De Cristo Electric’s Community Room in Buena Vista, Colorado, to a crowd wanting to hear how the Senator is going to fix the broken national health care system. He then spoke to a much larger crowd that had been waiting outside with much excitement and enthusiasm about pending legislation that will affect Brown’s Canyon. The audience was lively and outspoken requesting that their view points be heard. As the Senator was running out of time, he asked for each participant to give their opinion in a brief 20 second period. He heard a full range of responses that should represent the full gamete of opinions in Chaffee County regarding the very heated issue.
Senator Salazar then visited with Sangre De Cristo Electric’s CEO, Paul Erickson and took a look at Sangre’s new 3.3 kW Solar System that was recently installed at the Buena Vista Headquarters. Erickson took the opportunity to discuss energy policy and initiatives with Senator Salazar and his aides.
Senator Salazar was quite impressed with Sangre’s renewable energy programs and their partnership with the Governor’s Energy Office as well as their commitment to educate and be a leader in the renewable energy field.

Erickson later commented that, “Sangre’s position is to educate people and be a part of the community’s interest in renewable energies. After all, as a cooperative we’re here to serve our members and hopefully respond to their needs.”
