Alex T writes: “My teaching and traveling this past month has kept me away from the end of summer in BV, but I’ve been excited to stay in touch with local and regional-ness electronically from across the interwebs. I’ve gathered a few stories from BV and Colorado that you might enjoy:
- Buena Vista bids a fond farewell to coffee roaster, father and fundraiser Matt Holz who recently raised $1200 to support CCHS alternative high school with his ultra long distance running.
- Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper speaks to NPR about hosting the Democratic National Convention while protesters who’ve already arrived in the city give a Fox News reporter a bit of the run-around (YouTube video - Language warning).
- Utilizing straw-bale construction, active and passive solar collection and 45 tons of earth from their property, Buena Vista B&B, Los Manos, has won the 2008 Colorado Renewable Energy Society (CRES) award for ‘Sustainable Design in Buildings. Congratulations!
- Right around the corner is the 2nd annual Independence Film Festival including a special tribute to ‘Cult Classics’ out at the Comanche Drive-in. The curtain goes up September 3rd. See you there!
