dinner.jpgI hope some of you readers have had the opportunity to partake in the delicious, colorful bounty that has been the Weathervane Farm vegetable share this summer. Each week we have been greeted by fresh, ripe, flavorful vegetables, brimming with tasty goodness. Many of the veggies we knew, some we didn’t.

Garlic, Dill, Red Russian Kale, Romaine Lettuce, Red and Yellow Potatoes, Summer Squash, Broccoli Raab, Sweet Corn, Green Beans, Carrots, Cilantro, Cucumber, Green Leaf Lettuce, Spinach, Beets, Broccoli, Cabbage, Mint, Winterbor Kale, Snap and Snow Peas, Spinach, Zucchini, Green Pepper, Eggplant, Salad Turnips….plus many, many more veggies have found their way into our refrigerator and into our tummies this summer.

So, this week, we were excited to find: Green Beans, Broccoli, Green Cabbage, Carrots, Corn, Cucumbers, Mint, Oregano, Green Lettuce, Walla Walla Onions, Scallions and Zucchini. Two nights ago, we made a ridiculously good veggie stir fry with the scallions, zucchini, broccoli, carrots, and a Walla Walla sweet onion with peanut sauce on the side. A lot of times we either make up our own dishes, or, as in the case last night, we created a Mediterranean feast fit for an emperor based on recipe suggestions given by the Weathervane crew. Smirnaika, a beef and tomato dish (that we made with buffalo meat) and Tzatziki (a yogurt, cucumber, mint sauce), was accompanied with homemade pita bread and hummus. The folks at Weathervane generally provide recipes on their blog, The Weathervane Arrow, that compliment the veggies in the share each week. On the blog, they also comment on the various activities around the farm and provide humorous anecdotes and movies about the daily business.

Thanks for the amazing food and recipes guys! And for those of you who didn’t get a veggie or fruit share this year, maybe think about giving it a whirl next year.
